Does God laugh?

I asked myself this question today, and I found it really hard to answer. It wasn’t so much trying to envision an almighty omnipotent God having a hearty chuckle — while this is a hard thing to conjure in your mind — I seemed to wrestle more with myself over what my God would laugh, about.

I am pretty certain He doesn’t have too much fondness for comedy acts. Positive comedy is a needle in a haystack full of quirky remarks and short stories about the misfortunes of government and peers; I think we can dismiss this one quickly.

I also think we should dismiss those horrible one-liners that come from Christmas crackers. We all can agree that the only people that would crack some laughs for these petty excuses for comedy are most likely deaf. Next.

The only laughter that I can see God honestly being involved in, is the laughter associated with pure joy itself. The laughter a child makes when playing with their parents on the freshly mowed back lawn. Laughter that comes forth when we observe something that words can not describe. The laughter santa claus belts from his plump belly when addressing children in the local mall. It seems true laughter comes hand in hand with celebration; celebration of the goodness we find in our crazy lives.

So next time I find myself doing something I dreamed never possible, God will be right behind me having a hearty chuckle.
